Nov 04, Jane Tate rated it it was ok. And there is non of the misogynistic flavor that taints her early work. Her ponderings from the middle of the book through to the end didn’t really add much to the story. Hannah Jessett is not a wholly likeable character but her spirit, intelligence, and her quirky nerd-girl eccentricities make her a delicious foil for ruthless corporate raider Gideon Cage.
Needed some good editing. He wa a man that had been lead down a path of revenge early on and was krfntz with his life. The relationship picks up speed, for a while, but the heroine is suspicious of his motives.

Nothing burned more fiercely than the white hot fire of revenge. I know this is fiction with some suspension of disbelief but when the author uses the heroine to give advice for curing the millionaire’s boring successes by calling it “saving his life” is a little too much bullshit to believe.
Hannah and Gideon make a beautiful couple, quite well balanced in my opinion. It was romance and mystery. I had if issues with the leading lady, Hannah Jesset. It created interesting multigenerational backstory and added complexity to the contemporary relationships. That is a very small thing, however, and Chalfant’s voices and narration worked very well for me.
I enjoyed the leading man, Gideon Cage. It was difficult to put down and moved quickly. The story continues with Gideon pursuing Hannah, Hannah resisting and secondary characters here and there. That said, it’s still just classic Krentz: Yes, we know she is a guidance counselor, what type of clothes she wears, how well she reads people! Okay, I can suspend that awful advice and read on Books by Jayne Ann Krentz. Then the heroine discovered, after spending most of the novel agonizing twits an important choice, that she could, in fact, have it all.
Hannah went to seek Gideon out when seh thought he was instigating a hostile takeover of her brother’s company.
