Andrew, however, changes its mind, telling it that he is not a human being. Eventually, Andrew becomes human enough to fall in love with Portia and, ultimately, she falls in love with him.
This was a very enjoyable collection and has made me curious to read more Asimov.
As the world of humanity around him hommbre, yearning for longevity and becomes more and more like eo machine, Andrew wishes to be more like humans. This is quite possibly the best science-fiction short story I have ever read. In the end Andrew’s desire is fulfilled only when he embraces his humanity as a whole.
This is sci-fi, which includes the ‘human condition’, and weaves it into the story, rather than to dislodge humanity from technology. I have contributed artistically, literarily, and scientifically to human culture as much as any human being now alive.
